My first time trial was an evening club time trial organised by Reading Cycling Club on 5th May 1992 on the H10/1R course at Aldermaston in Berkshire, and I rode on my standard road bike with clip-on tri bars, finishing with a time of 25:14.
More than 25 years later, I've now taken part in a large number of races, totalling over 10,000 miles of time trialling alone.
It is not as easy as it was to be motivated enough to put in the training required to get good results, and age is not on my side, but in 2018 I shall be trying to see what I can achieve with the latest technology and aerodynamic knowledge. Sadly I shall never know what times I could have recorded with the fitness I had then and the knowledge and equipment I have now!
Ever since riding my first 12 hour race back in 1996 I have felt I had a 240 mile (20 mph) ride in me. But unlike the 24 hour I have never fully focused on a 12 and this year was a chance to see what I could really do.
